Abstract

The epidemiological, clinical and evolutionary characteristics of four deceased patients diagnosed with mpox are presented. They were between 23 and 41 year-old, all were male. Three stated that they were men who had sex with another man. One was a sex worker. The four cases had the human immunodeficiency virus and without antirretroviral treatment. The clinical manifestations were fever, headache, chills, asthenia, back pain, sore throat, lymphadenopathy, proctitis and dysphagia. The onset of symptoms coincided with the appearance of the rash in two cases. The rash was polymorphic in three cases and more than 100 dermal lesions were recorded in all the deceased. Two of the deceased were in the Intensive Care Unit due to respiratory complications and death occurred shortly after admission to the hospital.
